Any tips on straightening thick curly long hair??

my hair is the same way what i do that works the best for me is dry my hair out as straight as i can get it with my head upside down and then when it is bone dry flip it back over and spay leave in conditioner from VO5 and then dry it again this should only take a second. then separate your hair into very small pieces and go over them a couple times until that piece of hair is completely straight and repeat for the rest of yer hair. u are going to have to be pretty anal about getting each strand perfectly straight or it will look bad when yer done. when i straighten my hair people always think that how my hair is naturally and ask me the next day when my hair is curly again if i got a perm i know not the brightest bulbs but... try to use as little of products as possible because when u get done it can look either really frizzy or greasy hope i could help... o my fav straightener is the conair wet to straight it gets that hottest but if u use one never actually straighten yer hair when its wet one it will take forever and two it will damage your hair really really bad... and dont do that ponytail thing cuz if yer hair is as thick as mine is when u pull it back in a ponny tail where the tie is doesnt dry until u take it out

OMG!!! i have the same problem and got2b products work soooo well!! try this link--it will give you the page for their crazy sleek products...you can get them at most basic drug stores in the hair aisle.

other tips are--

** try blow-drying your hair and use a brush and straightening brush (get it at CVS, etc.)

** slow down when you straighten--when you do it quickly and carelessly your hair becomes poofy and doesn't last as long

** look in any hair product aisle at a drugstore and try different products that are for help with straightening hair!!

JUST REMEMBER check out this linkk cuz this prosuct works WONDERS!!! no joke I LOVE IT =]

I'm a male, with really curly hair. Used ceramics hair straightener, they worked fine, end result was awesome.

But problem is once I washed my hair, the magic is gone... it's back to its curly state..

Maybe I'd give a try 2 chemical relaxers, but dnt knw which 2 buy, nor hw much damage done 2 the hair

I have this problem too, but I don't like spending a lot of time on my hair. When I get out of the shower I put medium hold gel in my hair and brush through. I then pull back into a ponytail. When it dries then I can use a curling iron or straightenin iron to style. I usually wear a pony tail one day and the next style. As I said, it's the lazy woman's guide to straightening. ;)

For straightening hair at home, you can use a hair iron and a straightening shampoo will also help. If you wish to straighten for a longer time, you can undergo Japanese hair straightening. I found this website useful - http://hcr.in/straighten.html
